LEADERSHIP AND MORE
My belief is everyone has the potential and opportunity to be a leader no matter their status, education or the position they hold. Everything we do has the potential to affect, influence and potentially change someone else life. Sooner or later we will all be a role model to someone else, it is our choice if it is a positive or a negative.
My life is an evolution and a journey. Originally from Minnesota today I reside in Texas with my spouse who I have been blessed to spend more almost thirty years with and our two cats.
I am many things, a friend, son, brother, artist, writer, human resource professional and much more, but most of all I am a lifelong learner. My life's experiences have made me who I am today and I have always tried to be a better person today than I was yesterday.
For more than twenty five years I have worked in Human Resources, a profession that I was lucky enough to have found me. Over the course of my career, I have had the opportunity to work in a variety of industries including non-profit, banking, telecom, and utilities. Over the years I have also held a number of second jobs as a janitor, food server and sales associate. This has given me a greater understanding and appreciation of customer service and respect for others who hold those positions. As a result of these roles, I have also had the opportunity to work with a wide range of leaders.
It is through my observations and own experience that I have developed my own belief about what makes a good leader. It is through those same observations and experience working in the Human Resources field that my passion for helping people to be the best leaders possible regardless of the position they hold has come about.
For seven years I worked for a large telecommunications company. In 2012 after being transferred from Florida to Louisiana I began sending a motivational quote each morning to the supervisors and managers I supported across the country. The feedback I received from this small effort to inspire was positive and I realized that it was making a difference. Knowing I could do more, in 2013 I decided to start a blog.
I think conversations are important, it is the opportunity to share information, exchange ideas and share points of view. When I started thinking about doing a blog I wanted to do more than just post motivational quotes so I decided to do interviews with people about their experiences, thoughts, and ideas about leadership. I wanted it to be like a conversation, and thus A CONVERSATION WITH felt natural. My first interview was with Author Michael Thomas Sunarborg and since then I have had the opportunity to interview a wide range of people from diverse backgrounds and professions.
In 2015, after doing more than twenty interviews I decided to launch the Leadership and More website and start the second series focusing on women’s experiences and thoughts on leadership. Since starting the WOMEN ON LEADERSHIP series I have had the privilege and honor to interview some remarkable women including Author/Executive Margaret Perry, Mayor Eileen Weir, Austin TX Fire Chief Rhoda Mae Kerr and more. I also began writing articles and promoting the books and websites that I found useful.
My objective is not to create something new, there is plenty of stuff about leadership and personal development already available. Instead, my focus is on initiating conversation and thought around what it means to be a leader in the broadest sense of the word. If one person is inspired by someone I interview, something I write about or recommend, then I have achieved my goal.
I hope you find something of interest here and your feedback is important to me so please leave a comment or email me, after all, it's about starting conversations. Oh, and come back often as I update content on a regular basis.
